DU THM dept alumni assoc hosts iftar party
The newly formed convening committee of Dhaka University Tourism & Hospitality Management Alumni Association (DUTHMAA) hosted its first iftar party at the department on the campus on Saturday evening.
Dr Saker Ahmed, chairman of the Tourism and Hospitality Management department of Dhaka University, was the chief at the programme.  “There is an enormous opportunities in tourism sector in the country. We should utilize the scopes through proper policy and workforce.
The students of tourism departments would be the good supply who could involve themselves in the sector, said chairman of the department Dr Saker Ahmed. The speakers at the programme also emphasized on more involvement of former and current students at the alumni association to strengthen the communication among them.  Prof Dr Syed Rashidul Hasan, Prof Dr Md Afzal Hossain also speak the programme.
Assistant Professors Md Bodruzzaman Bhuiyan, Nusrat Jahan, Santus Kumar Deb, Md Ruhul Amin of Tourism and Hospitality Management department, Abu Rayhan Sarker, Rassel Nijam, convener and member secretary of the convening committee were present, among others.  Besides, a good number of former and current students attend the iftar party.

DU gets Tk 5 lakh as donation
Dhaka University (DU) yesterday received a donation of Tk 5.12 lakh from state-owned Rupali Bank Limited for developing computer laboratory of the Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology (ILET) of the university.
Director of ILET Professor M Aftab Ali Sheikh received a cheque from Rupali Bank's Managing Director M Farid Uddin at a function at the lounge adjacent to VC's office.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Arts Faculty Dean Prof Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, Social Sciences Faculty Dean Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science Professor Nazma Shaheen and DU Senate and Syndicate member SM Bahalul Majnun were present on the occasion. Prof Arefin thanked Rupali Bank Limited authorities for the donation.
