ACC grills 2 ex-Agrani directors

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday interrogated two former directors of Agrani Bank Limited in connection with a Tk 270 crore loan scam.
ACC deputy director Benzir Ahmad interrogated former directors of the bank Ranjit Kumar Chakrawarty and Manjurul Haque Lavlu at the Commissions head office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
On Wednesday last, the ACC served notices upon 18 people, including former chairman and directors of Agrani Bank, asking them to be present at the ACC head office on June 20 to 22 next to face questioning.
The remaining 16 people, who are scheduled to be grilled, are ex-chairman of the bank Prof Dr Khandaker Bazlul Haque and former directors Arastu Khan, Abdus Sabur, AKM Golam Kirbria, adv Balram Podder, Prof Abdur Rouf Sarder, Altaf Hossain Mollah, ABM Kamrul Islam, Nagibul Islam Dipu, Sheikhar Dutta, Barrister Zakir Hossain, Shazada Mohiuddin and Abdus Zahir Sufian, managing director of Agrani Bank Dr Syed Abdul Hamid, its deputy general manager Mizanur Rahman Khan and Syed Bazlul Karim.
Earlier, the Commission received an allegation that three business firms -- M/s Moon International Printing Press, M/s Moon Bangladesh Limited and M/s MR Trading -- took loan of Tk 270 crore from the Motijheel branch of Agrani Bank showing fake documents and bank guarantees, and plundered the amount. Moon Group chairman Mizanur Rahman is the owner of these companies. The ACC launched a probe into the allegation on May 18, 2016.
