1 killed under the wheel of train
FARIDPUR: A man was crushed under the wheel of a
Rajbari bound train from Faridpur when he was crossing a rail bridge near North Alipur of the town on Saturday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Alim, 65. According to Kotwali police, Abdul Alim, a retired employee of Fire services department was a resident of the area. He was overrun and died instantaneously under the wheel of the train while crossing the bridge, police said. Later his body was handed over to the relatives after autopsy. A case was registered with kotwali police in this connection.
2 held with firearm, ammo
Chapainawabganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested two young men along with a firearm, six rounds of bullet and two magazines from Raninagar area of Shibganj upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Nazim Uddin, 21, son of Anisur Rahman, and Masud Rana, 24, son of Mobarok Hossain, a resident of the area.
On secret information, a team of RAB-5, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nur ALam, conducted a raid in a mango orchard around 5pm and arrested the duo along with a pistol, six rounds of bullet and two magazines, said Rab at a press briefing.
After primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their long involvement in arms trading.
A case was filed with Shibganj Police Station in this connection.
Woman electrocuted in Mithapukur
RANGPUR: A young woman was electrocuted at Udaipur village under Shalti Gopalpur union in Mithapukur upazila here yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Noor Taz Begum, 25, only daughter of Nurul Islam of the same village.
Police and hospital sources said Nur Taz Begum was critically injured after being electrocuted when she tried to connect the cables of their dish antenna with television at home at around 10 am.
She was rushed to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared her dead. Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur Thana Humayun Kabir has confirmed the incident and death.
FNB committee reorganized
Faridpur: The district committee of Federation of Ngos in Bangladesh was reorganized on Saturday afternoon at a hotel here, reports BSS.
The representatives of 23 micro-credit lending Ngos, both of local and national levels after discussion unanimously re-elected the outgoing 15-member committee for a three-year term. Kazi Ashraful Hassan of SDC, Md. Abdul Jalil of AKK, ANM Fazlul Hadi Sabbir of BFF and Md. Hafizur Rahman of PWO were elected president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer respectively. It also elected eleven members of the executive committee.
Md. Shahidullah, former deputy director of Social services department conducted the election.
Chief Executive Officer of Faridpur Zilla Parishad was the chief guest while it was chaired by Kazi Ashraful Hassan. Among others, Prof. Md. Shahjahan, NGO
person Md. Azharul Islam and Social service officer Nurul Huda spoke.
