4 get life for gang rape

A Bogra court yesterday sentenced four people to life term rigorous imprisonment for gang raping two women in Namuit area of Nandigram upazila of Bogra district in 2001. The court also fined them Tk 1.25 lakh each in an abduction and rape case. Judge Abdul Mannan of Bogra Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 pronounced the verdict yesterday afternoon. The convicts were identified as Solaiman Ali Mandal, Mahir Uddin, Aynal Haque and Mojhaa Ali, inhabitant of Namuit village of Nandigram upazila. The court also sentenced them to 14 years rigorous imprisonment each for kidnapping the women and fined them Tk 1.25 lakh each, in default, to suffer six month more RI. According to the prosecution, the four convicts kidnapped two women when they went out at around 12.00am to respond to the call of nature on October 29, 2001. The gang violated the women after detaining them one of the convict’s houses. Police with local people rescued the victims from Solaiman Ali’s house on the following day. One of the victims filed a case against the accused with Nandigram police station on November 6 in the same year.
