Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has said the proposal for increasing revenue collection in the fiscal 2016-17 year will put extra pressure on small investors and low-income group people, reports UNB.
In a statement yesterday, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said tax has been imposed tactically on common people in the proposed national budget, and the socioeconomic inequity and instability will rise in the country if the proposal is approved.
“To achieve the increased revenue collection target in the proposed budget, it has been proposed to impose tax directly or indirectly on low-income people, small investors, pensioners and general people,” he said.
Besides, the TIB chief said, the tax rebate facility has been minimised significantly for low-income people rather than the rich, which is ‘unfair’.
Iftekhar urged the government to reconsider the proposal for imposing tax on general people and not to put any extra tax burden on low-income and working groups.
The TIB protested the scope the government gives to whiten black money in the proposed budget.
