Foreign cigarettes seized
Airport Customs authority has seized 3,700 boxes of foreign brand cigarettes worth Taka 11 lakh from two individuals landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by two foreign airlines early yesterday morning.
The custom authority seized these foreign brand cigarettes from Mohammad Ismail Azad and Mohammad Parvez who hailed from Chittagong and arrived Dhaka through two separate airlines—a flight of Air-Arabian (G9-5131) and other was Qatar Airlines flight—landed at the airport at around 5.30am. After reaching the airport, the huge quantity of cigarettes were seized by the custom officials while they were passing through the green channel, said Rezaul Karim, Assistant Commissioner of the Airport Customs Department. Those cigarettes are now under custody of the customs authority. The Custom Authority will file case against the two persons under custom act.

Four shops gutted in Ctg
At least four shops were gutted in a fire at Harualdigi under Biyazid thana in Chittagong city yesterday morning.
Fire Service & Civil Defence sources said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit of a shop in the area at about 7 am and it quickly engulfed the adjacent shops.
Being informed, firefighters of two units from surrounding fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 8.30 am.  "Valuables worth about Taka four lakh were gutted in the fire," the sources said, adding that none was, however, injured in the fire.

260 arrested in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan and district police arrested 260 people including two Shibir activists in a series of overnight special drives in the last day of anti-militant operation from different areas in the district during the last 24 hours.
The drive was conducted from Friday morning (June 17) to Saturday morning (June 18).
A total of 3685 pieces contraband yaba tablets, two kg hemp, 100 kg liquor, 10 bottle of phensidyle and three knives were seized during the drive. Reazaul Masud, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Special Branch of Chittagong district informed BSS that 159 people were held during overnight raid from 16 Thanas of the district.

Eight cows burn alive
Criminal burn alive eight cows in Dakkin Surma Upazila In the Sylhet city on Saturday night.
Sources said, on Saturday night some criminals set fire to a cow house of one Joynal Mia at Murthy village in Jalalpur Union under the upazila where eight cows were burn to ashes. The reason for set to fire could not be known immediately. On hearing the incident local up chairman and other elite persons visited the spot.

Discussion on Ramadan held
Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) arranged a discussion on importance of the holy month of Ramadan, doa mahfil followed by Iftar party at RCCI auditorium here on Saturday.
With RCCI President Md Abul Kashem in the chair, Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the occasion as the chief guest.
Divisional Director of Islamic Foundation Abul Kalam Azad, former RCCI President Alhaj Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu, its incumbent Senior Vice-president Mostafa Ahmed and Vice-president Mozammel Hossain Dambel attended as the special guests.
    
4 of ‘doping gang’ arrested
Detective Branch (DB) of police on Thursday arrested four members of an ogyan (doping) party from the capital Gulistan area. On a tip off, a team of DB arrested the four members of the ogyan party with six container intoxicated halwa and medicines, which are used to make people unconscious, a press release of Dhaka Metropolitan police said yesterday.
