Nayek Razzak to be brought back soon

Special Correspondent

The abducted Bangladesh Border Guard Nayek Razzak, now in Border Guard Police (BGP) custody in Myanmar, will be brought back within a day or two without any conditions.
BGB director general Maj. Gen. Aziz Ahmed, who is now in China on an official visit, told The Independent yesterday that the BGP authorities have agreed to send back Razzak along with his arms and uniform without any conditions within a day or two. He said this has been confirmed by the Bangladesh
ambassador to Myanmar last night. “Our foreign ministry is in touch with the Myanmar authorities to bring back Razzak soon,” he added.
Earlier, Lt Col. Abu Zar Al Zahid, chief of the BGB’s 42 Battalion, said that they had spoken to Lt Col. Thi Han, the battalion commander of BGP command of Myanmar, who said they would send Razzak back if the BGB receives 555 people rescued by Myanmar authorities from their coast recently. “We told them that the return of Razzak and those people are two different issues. The BGB can't receive those people," he added.
“We requested them to send back Razzak as soon as possible. We'll bring back all the Bangladeshi people who were rescued by the Myanmar authorities only after checking their citizenship through police verifications,” he added.
“The BGP told they would get back to us after speaking to their higher-ups,” the BGB officer said. He also said the higher authorities were requested to take necessary steps in this regard. “We hope the BGP will release Razzak as soon as possible,” he added.
