University student killed as bus hits him

A student of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) was crushed under a bus on the campus yesterday afternoon, triggering widespread violence on the campus. The deceased was identified as Mir Moniruzzaman, 21, a 2nd year student of Agriculture faculty of the university and an inhabitant of Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur. At least two students and 10 policemen were also injured as the agitated students clashed with police over alleged bad remarks of a police officer over the accident. Police charged batons on the agitating students and fired one tear gas shell to disperse them while student used brickbats during the chase and counter chases between police and students of the university. Police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.  Witnesses said the accident took place at around 3.50pm when Moniruzzaman tried to get into the bus and fell down and died on the spot. They have blamed the bus driver for the accident. After the incident the agitated students vandalised the administration building demanding removal of the driver.
