Promotion of e-govt stressed

RAJSHAHI: All the officials and others concerned should put in their best efforts for substantial and sustainable promotion of e-government public services to get its benefits properly, speakers at a discussion here said, reports BSS.They defined that e-government helps simplify processes and makes access to government information more easily accessible for public sector agencies and citizens. It is convenient and cost-effective for businesses and the public benefits by getting easy access to the most current information available without having to spend time, energy and money to get it. The anticipated benefits of e-government include efficiency, improved services, better accessibility of public services, and more transparency and accountability. It's always easier to set up a vision than its completion. They were addressing the inaugural session of a daylong workshop titled "e-Government applications: Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders"held at the regional office of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) in the city on Sunday. More than 20 officers from different government offices took part in the workshop.
Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury and Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Prof Nazrul Islam addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with Engineer Enamul Kabir, Director (Training) of BCC, in the chair.
BCC Engineer Foroj Alam, Assistant Programmer Nazmul Haque and RUET Assistant Professor Arafat Hossain also spoke on various issues of internet- based public services.
The speakers said the present government has resurrected that vision and made it ready for the 21st century highly globalise world and names it Digital Bangladesh. E-Governance is a powerful tool for bringing about change to government processes in the developing world.
Although Bangladesh has its own limitations in resources, capacity and knowledge, the country's potential in human resources can be tapped through apropriate use of ICT tools, they added.
