Post offices to get 118 vehicles for courier, parcel services

BSS

Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) would introduce 118 vehicles for its courier and parcel services, reports BSS.
“The vehicles would join the existing fleet of BPO by April next year to ensure fast and quick services to the people, and 20 per cent of those vehicles would remain reserved for women drivers” said State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim while talking to the news agency at her BPO chamber yesterday.
Depending on the rail and launch transportation, the BPO is lagging behind in the competition with private sector, Tarana said, adding “When we would start transporting of courier and parcels with own vehicles, we would be able to ensure fast and quick delivery of those.”
She said they had the desire to have the vehicles on road by this time, but delay in fund disbursement pushed the BPO slight slow to introduce the dedicated service.
“The procedure of fund disbursement has consumed time, but we’ve talked with state-owned Pragati Industries for providing the vehicles,” she added.
Dreaming to introduce inter-border courier and parcel services by BPO, the state minister said: “we don’t want to limit our activities only inside the country, we are planning to wing with inter-border service gradually.”
Present era is moving forward pinning upon the e-commerce, Tarana Halim said, “fastest and quickest delivery of any courier and parcel is inevitable in the age of e-commerce and the BPO could boost its revenue tripping with e-commerce.”
“Now, the time has come to diversify the services of BPO moving out from the traditional system,” she added.
The state minister also urged the BPO officials to come up with innovative ideas during her first full-day office at BPO.
Tarana said as minister she would attend full-day office each Thursday at BTCL, Teletalk, BSCCL and Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Limited (TSS) by turn.  “Actually, I want to make them (organisations) feel that they are not neglected part of the ministry.”
