Mother, daughter killed in road crash
A woman and her three-month- old daughter was killed as a tank lorry ran over them at Kanchpur crossing in the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were Suma Akhter and her daughter Nusrat, residents of South Ruposi village in Rupganj.
Officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway police Shariful Islam said the accident occurred when the tank lorry ran over them in the area at about 3 pm as its driver lost control over the vehicle. Both of them died on the spot.
Youth arrested with fire arm
A team of Rappid Action Battalion (RAB -1) arrested a youth with a fire arm from a residence in Hatiabo area of Gazipur city on Wednesday evening. The arrested was identified as Mohammed Sabbir Hossain Sajib, 26, son of Shahidul Islam of Bhaoraid area in Gazipur city.
RAB sources said on a secret information, a team of RAB-1 led by ASP Mohammed Mohiul Islam  conducted a raid at a residence owned by one Mohammed Akter Hossain at Hatiabo area in Gazipur city. The RAB members arrested Sabbir Hossain with a foreign revolver while it was selling among the some youths.  Sensing the presence of RAB members, Sabbir’s  associates could manage to flee from the spot.
2 brick kilns fined Tk 80,000
Two brick kilns were fined Taka 80,000 by a mobile court on Wednesday in Motbari area of Keraniganj for not having the clearance certificate of department of environment.
The court, led by executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (land) of Keraniganj circle Shamim Banu Shanti, conducted the drives in the “Moklesh Enterprise and Aushtadona Brick Field” and fined Taka 30,000 and Taka 50,000 respectively.
The court is comprised of officials of department of environment, Keraniganj upazila administration and members of the law enforcement agencies.
79 arrested in Rangpur
 Police arrested 79 persons, including a Jama'atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) cadre, from different areas in the district in the combing operations conducted during the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, the arrested persons also include three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and a Shibir cadre.
Acting on a tip off, a special police squad arrested active member of outlawed militant organisation JMB Golzar Hossain, 47, son of late Abdul Gaffar Sarker of village Baluabhata Adarshapara under Badarganj upazila.
Sangbad Patra Sebi Samabay Samity polls held President Secretary Vice-President Mostofa Kamal elected president while Abul Kalam and Abdus Sobahan were vice president and secretary respectively at an election of Sangbad Patra Sebi Samabay Samity Limited held in the capital on Wednesday. All valid candidates were won the election uncontested.
The other winners are Sarif Hossain (joint secretary) and Jahangir Alam (treasurer). Jahangir Alam, Abul Kasem, Jaynal Abedin and Golam Rosul Talukdar were elected as member of management committee.
