The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the High Court order asking the authorities concerned to admit Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute for treatment, reports UNB.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order after rejecting the government’sa ppeal seeking stay on the HC order.
Advocate Iddisur Rahman stood for Manna while attorney general Mahbube Alam represented the state.
On May 31, the High Court ordered the authorities concerned to admit Mahmudur Rahman Manna to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute for treatment.
Earlier on May 21, the court issued two separate rules asking the government to explain in three weeks as to why Mahmudur Rahman Manna, currently in jail, should not be granted bail in two cases.
The two cases were filed with Gulshan Police Station on February 24 and March 5 last year on charges of provoking the army and sedition.
Earlier, a lower court scrapped Manna’s bail prayers in the two cases filed with Gulshan Police Station last year.
