Two get life term for drug trading
KHULNA: A court here yesterday sentenced two people to life imprisonment in a drug trading case filed against them at Dumuria Police Station on July 19 in 2013.
Additional District and Session Judge of Khulna M Nurul Islam gave the verdict in absence of the two convicts after examining records and witnesses of the case.
The convicts are Ratan Rudra, 28, hailing from Goldhigirpar village under Sadar Upazila of Coxs Bazar and Khokon, 30, from Submarine Cable Road adjacent to BDR Camp under the same upazila of Coxs Bazar.
The judge also fined two convicts Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer one year in jail. Quoting the case, Additional Pubic Prosecutor (PP) Parveen Joly said two convicts were arrested along with 2000 bottles of phensedyl boarded a microbus from Khataltola area under Dumuria upazila on Khulna-Satkhira Highway on July 19 in 2013. Ruhul Azam, ASI of Magurghona Police Outpost filed a case with Dumuria Police Station in this connection on the same day accusing Ratan, Khokon and microbus owner Kutub Uddin.
Tazul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Dumuria Police Station started investigation and submitted charge-sheet against Ratan and Khokon to Additional Session Judge Court of Khulna on October 31, 2013.
OC who was the IO of the case excluded bus owner Kutub Uddin from the charge sheet as police did not find his involvement with drug trading, PP said and adding that two convicts were at large after getting bail from the Court.
