Rejuvenation in Yunnan

“I am writing an article about my experience studying in China for the university’s Alumni Forum, and I would like to title my article ‘Rejuve-nation’,” said Li Zhengchao, a 28-year-old from Myanmar. Li Zhengchao is now a junior studying International Educa-tion in Chinese at the College of Chinese Language and Culture, Yunnan Normal University. Be-fore coming to study in Yunnan, Li Zhengchao was a Chinese teacher at a school in Myanmar. Now, however, he is a student. That is why he often jokes that his studies in Yunnan have been a “return to youth”. 

According to Li Zhengchao, the level of Chinese language teaching is not high in Myan-mar. Now that he has studied in China for three years, the Chi-nese immersion environment has greatly improved his Chi-nese proficiency. In addition, he has benefited from a variety of activities. Acting as class moni-tor and working at the Overseas Students’ Association as well, he assists teachers in solving many problems in the lives and studies of overseas students. He also often organizes cultural and artistic exchanges between over-seas and Chinese students. Last year, Li Zhengchao participated in the Songkran celebration at the Kunming University of Science and Technology, which was organized by the Consulate General of Myanmar in Kun-ming. He has also worked as a translator. These activities in-creased his overall abilities and left beautiful memories.

Speaking of his affection for Yunnan, Li Zhengchao said with a smile, “My mother was born in Yunnan, so I am half Yunna-nese.” Since 2007, he has come to Yunnan many times and has developed a keen interest in the Chinese culture. He believes that by studying the depth of Chinese culture can help young people improve themselves.
