From 2012 to 2015, according to the re-search institute at the Huanglianshan National Nature Reserve, researchers discovered five new plant species through daily scientific mon-itoring. These include Bulbophyllum, Dendro-bium, Stereochilus, Trigoni diumseemanii and Begonia fagopyrofolia. The five plant species are newly discovered in the world of science, and the first four are thought to be unique to Luchun County in Yunnan.
The Huanglianshan National Nature Re-serve, located at the junction of the southeast Yunnan and southwest Yunnan vegetation regions, was approved as a national nature reserve by the Chinese State Council on June 6, 2003. The nature reserve runs through the middle and south parts of Luchun County in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, covering a total area of about 61,860 hectares. With a forest coverage rate of 84.3 percent, the large nature reserve falls into the category of a forest ecosystem. It is an important part of the “green triangle” border region of China, Vietnam and Laos and also constitutes an inter-national biological corridor.
