BNP slams chargesheet against Anee in graft case

Voicing concern over the pressing of a chargesheet against its leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee in a graft case, BNP yesterday alleged that the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) cannot work dispassionately ignoring the ruling partys influence, reports UNB. Were observing with deep concern that the ACC fails to discharge a dispassionate role in rooting out corruption coming out of the
ruling partys influence, the party said in a statement.
It alleged that there has been no progress in the cases filed against the ruling party leaders on specific charges.
The party said the ACC often gives Awami League leaders clean chit relieving them of the charges brought against them. But it has been filing cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and other opposition leaders with a motive to harass them.
As part of it, the statement said, the
ACC approved the chargesheet against its student affairs secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee.
We hope the ACC will impartially carry out its activities against corruption. It cant be expected that the ruling party leaders will be given clean chit while chargesheet against the opposition.
On June 18, the ACC approved a charge-sheet against Anee in a graft case.
October 9, 2014, the ACC filed a case against Anee with Ramna Police Station in the capital for allegedly amassing illegal wealth.
Meanwhile, the High Court yesterday granted bail for six months to detained BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in a case filed with Chawkbazar Police Station.
An HC bench comprising Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore passed the order following a petition filed by Gayeshwars counsel.
Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury stood for the BNP leader while Deputy Attorney General Dr Mohammad Bashirullah represented the state during the bail hearing.
Miscreants attacked Chhabi Biswas, the lawmaker from Netrakona-1 constituency, and set fire to his microbus in front of the Emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on December 24 when BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia appeared before the special judge court set up at Alia Madrasah ground at Baskhibazar.
Two cases were filedone with Chawkbazar and the other with Shahbagh Police Stationin this connection. Gayeshwar made accused in the both cases. Nitai Roy Chowdhury said the BNP standing committee member could not be released from jail as two more cases are pending against him.
On December 26, 2014, Turag thana police filed a case against Gayeshwar for planning to carry out sabotage activities. Plain-clothes police arrested him from his house in the city on that day.
