NBL launches collateral-free loan scheme ‘Mukti’ with 5pc interest

National Bank Limited (NBL) has launched a collateral-free low-interest loan scheme, Mukti, for the marginal and lower income generating people.
Under the scheme, people will get loan up to Tk 1 lakh at an interest rate of only 5 per cent, says a press release.
The NBL Chairman Zainul Haque Sikder yesterday announced the launching of the scheme in a press conference held in the capital.
Addressing the press conference, Zainul Haque Sikder said initially NBL has allocated a fund of Tk 15 crore for the scheme. But in future, the allocation will be increased further depending on the demand and success of the programme.
The new loan scheme has been introduced to address small entrepreneur and professionals, small and cottage industries, handicraft, marginal and landless farmers, he said.
Under the scheme, entrepreneurs, professionals and farmers will be able to open their bank account depositing only Tk 10. Potter, blacksmith, fisherman, tailors, flower-seller, hawker, fruit-seller, vegetable-seller, rickshaw /van puller, small and cottage industries, weavers, bakery items manufactures, marginal businessmen and farmers of the under privileged areas will be able to enjoy the security free and easily available loan facility.
The loan facility will be revolving for maximum 18 (eighteen) months validity at 5 per cent interest rate per annum and upto Tk 1 lakh will be granted to each customer, the statement added.
Directors of the bank—Parveen Haque Sikder, Moazzem Hossain, Ron Haque Sikder, Independent Directors—Anowar Hossain, Md Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director A F M Shariful Islam, were present among others in the press conference.
