NARAIL: Torrential rain for the last two days has paralysed of normal life and hampering business activities in Narail district town, reports BSS.
The low-lying areas remained submerged for hours, causing immense sufferings to the town dwellers. The heavy downpour began two days earlier and continued intermittently till this morning.
There was serious dislocation in normal public life as well as all sorts of business activities due to incessant rain that caused heavy water stagnation in the three municipalities and the three upazilas’s remote areas of the district. Witnesses said that many town areas of Narail district as well as Lohagora and Kalia municipalities areas went under knee-deep water during the rainfall.
Business establishments in some low-lying areas were submerged by rain water. Traders at different markets had to keep their shops shut as rain water entered their shops and caused water-logging in the areas.”We had to keep our shops shut for hours”, Sona Saha and Nabo Kumer - two businessmen at Rupganj bazar in Narail town told this correspondent. Prices of essentials especially vegetables have gone up in the district caused by heavy rainfall.
Khokon Devnath,a vegetables trader at Rupganj Bazar, told the news agency that in last two days vegetables supply not available in the markets due to torrential rain. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said, most of the fields of the crops especially vegetables are now under water.
