Helmot vows to present talented players

Sports Reporter

Newly appointed High Performance (HP) head coach Simon Helmot was excited to be involved in picking up the talents who could take Bangladesh in a new  height, carrying the legacy of the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Those three stalwarts have been the linchpin of Bangladesh cricket and made the nation a forced to be reckoned with after being graduated from the High Performance Unit in 2006 during the tutelage of Richard McInness.
Many other talented players afterwards came and enriched the country’s cricket but Bangladesh didn’t get a bunch of talented cricketers like Shakib and Tamim batch since the HP wasn’t active most of the time. Much to the delight of Bangladesh cricket, the HP was revived again and now Helmot, a high profile coach has taken the responsibility to provide enough talented players to the pipeline.
“I am not going to mention if we can produce Shakib, Tamim as that can be dangerous sometimes. I am hoping through a HP programme we can give players a whole lot of skill sets, a whole lot of experiences, a whole lot of competition type activities so that when they go out to play in the international level, they are ready,” said Helmot, an Australian coach who worked with different franchisees across the world.
The HP programme is designed to give the fringed players a chance to showcase their talent and prove their hunger to play for the national team. At the same time, the younger players hone their skill through the programme. There will be no exception this time and Helmot has already devised his action plan.
“We have been working on that now. I have talking to the coaches, I have been talking to the administrators and the board. We are looking to develop Bangladesh cricket so we can be a force in all formats around the world. If we can develop the youth and even some of the experienced players so that we have better depth and a greater talent pool brushed to pick in the national side then we are going to be in a good place for not only now but for years to come. And that is what excites me about being involved in this job.”
He believes the HP would provide the Bangladesh cricket a good pipeline through which they will get the players they are craving for. The selectors and Helmot would sit after the completion of the Dhaka Premier League to pick up the players for HP programme.
“So I don’t know who the next player is to come out but as I have said I have experienced two Bangladeshi players at my times – Shakib in Melbourne Renegades and Mustafiz in IPL. Both of them are of different ages. I am looking forward to work with all the group when the selectors and I is to decided the players who will be fortunate to be part of the HP programme.”
Helmot who described the job of head coach is challenging for him has been coaching from lower levels to the higher levels and in the recent times it has been the Twenty20 formats with the Melbourne Renegades, Hurricanes in Australia. Recently he had a stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in which Mustafizur Rahman was a part of and also involved with Trinidad Knight Riders in the Caribbean Prmier league.
Surely he had lot of experience in coaching and he said, he was very enthusiastic in getting involved with a national team, a national side and a national operation.
