The cabinet on Monday gave its final approval to the draft of "The Bangladesh National Cadet Corps Act, 2016", aiming to give a legal framework to the existing BNCC and establish a separate directorate for it, reports UNB.
The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the draft law has
been formulated as the existing BNCC has no legal framework.
The activities of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corp (BNCC) have been running on the basis of a circular of the government along with supportive Territorial Force Act, 1950 for long time, he said.
Shafiul Alam said under the draft law, a separate directorate would be established for the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps under the Ministry of Defence.
A Director General-DG to be appointed by the government from the Armed Forces on some conditions would be the Chief of the Directorate, he added.
Besides, there will be an Advisory Committee of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corp (BNCC) with Secretary of the Ministry of Defence as its head while representatives from the concerned Ministries and organisations, including Ministries of Defence, Education, Finance, Home, Armed Forces Division and UGC will be its members.
Representations will also be there from Army, Navy and Airforce Headquarters and Dhaka University, Open University and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary education.
About the membership of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corp (BNCC), the Cabinet Secretary said students of recognised schools, colleges and Universities of the country could be enlisted as its member.
