The Anti corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against professor M A Mannan, the suspended mayor of Gazipur City corporation (GCC) and an adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Deputy director of ACC Mohammed Shamsul Alam filed the case (Case no 56) with Joydebpur police station yesterday morning. Officer in charge of Joydebpur police station Khandoker Rezaul Hasan Reza confirmed the news.
He said the than account officer of Gazipur City Corporation Mohammed Golam Kibria was also accused in the case as well as mayor Mannan. They were charged for embezzling Tk 49 lakh one thousand and 848 of Poor and Relief Fund of the City Corporation.
According to the case, it is known that mayor Mannan and account officer Mohammed Golam Kibria embezzled the money in co-operation with one another after withdrawing the money of Poor and Relief Fund through 999 of fake vouchers from August 18 in 2013 to February 2 in 2015.
Deputy Director of ACC Shamsul Alam began investigation into the matter in the middle of last year. At the end of investigation, he recommended for case and the ACC approved on Sunday to file case. They have been charged in the penal code of 409/467/468/471/109, including the Anti-Corruption Act in 1947, section 5 (ii).
The suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Professor MA Mannan is currently in Kashimpur jail in Gazipur after he was arrested on April 15 from Vannara area of Kaliakoir upazila in the district in an arson case.
