Health Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday ordered suspension of the activities of three private medical colleges for violating rules, reports BSS. The colleges are: Northern Medical College in Rangpur, City Medical College in Gazipur and Nightingale Medical College in Ashulia. The students of those colleges will get the opportunity to continue their studies in other private medical colleges in nearby areas. The health minister issued the directive while presiding over a meeting at the health ministry in the capital on private medical college rules and regulations, said an official release. The meeting suspended enrolment of students in Southern Medical College in Chittagong in upcoming academic year 2016-17 and reduced the number of seats in BGC Trust Medical College of the same district to 75 from 125 for violating rules. The health minister directed the inspection committee of department of health to complete inspection of 68 private medical colleges in the next three months and submit reports. He said the government will strictly monitor activities of private medical colleges to maintain their standard. The colleges will not be allowed to continue activities only for distributing certificates, he added. The minister said the recommendations in the reports of inspection committee would be implemented soon.
The meeting was told that the inspection committee of department of health completed inspection of 25 private medical colleges so far.
