GAIBANDHA: A two storied academic building cum flood shelter is being built on the premises of Ghuridaha High School under Ghuridaha union of Shaghata upazila of the district, reports BSS.
Upazila project implementing office under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is constructing the building at a cost of TK 1.03 crore under the direct supervision of upazila administration, sources said.
Over 90 per cent work has already been completed and the rest of the work would be finished by June 30, Sub Assistant Engineer of the office Abdul Hamid said.
Upazila project implementation officer Mithun Kundu said with the completion of the work the building would be handed over to the school authority for academic purposes.
He also said local people would take shelter in the building during the time of disaster including floods and tornado.
Upazila administration is closely monitoring to ensure the quality of work of the building, said UNO Mohammad Shafiuzzaman Bhuiyan.
Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Adv. Fazle Rabbi Miah formally inaugurated the construction work of the building on October, 2015 as the chief guest.
