Quader calls for resisting communalism

BSS

Awami League Presidium Member and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday called upon the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and workers to make resistance against the communalism, reports BSS. “BNP-Jamaat clique has chosen the path of secret killings after they failed to tarnish the government’s image through visible enmity,” he told the inaugural function of the two-day extended meeting and workshop of BCL at Dhaka University Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. He said secular, liberal and minorities were killed in the recent period in the wake of an orchestrated plot using the extreme fanaticism. “The evil forces are hatching these conspiracies to thwart the government ties with other friendly countries,” he added.
Terming the communalism and extremism are the major challenges for the country, the Awami League leader urged the BCL leaders and workers to take initiatives to meet the challenge. Quader stressed the need for regular student unions polls at the educational institutions for the democratic practice and creating national leaders from the institutions. “There is no alternative to student union polls to make the politics of students’ organisations fascinating. One student leader will have to be well-behaved when he seeks votes,” he said. He underscored the need for qualitative change of student leaders for the development of student politics and urged them to learn the operation of latest information communication technology. BCL former presidents Mohammad Abdul Mannan, MP and Enamul Haque Shamim joined the function as special guests with BCL incumbent president Saifur Rahman Sohag in the chair. Leaders of BCL central body, presidents and general secretaries of different district and city units are taking part in the two-day extended meeting and workshop.
