Former Professor of Chemistry Department at Jahangirnagar University (JU) Syed Shafiullah passed away on Saturday night at a hospital in the capital, reports BSS.
He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, relatives, well-wishers and a host of admirers.
Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Farzana Islam on Saturday expressed profound shock at the death of eminent chemist Shafiullah. In a condolence message, the vice-chancellor said that his death is an irreparable loss to the country. “He would be remembered for his outstanding research activities in the field of chemistry and environment,” she added. The VC conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
JU acting VC Professor Abul Hossain, former VCs, deans of different faculties, provosts of different dormitories, chairmen of different departments and officers as well as the students of the university attended his first namaz-e-janaza at the university’s central mosque in the morning. Later, he was laid to eternal rest at the Banani graveyard after second namaz-e-janaza after Asr prayer at Gulshan Azad Mosque.
