Interns continue strike at Sher-E- Bangla Medical College Hospital

Intern doctors of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) continued their strike protesting alleged assault on a female intern by a police official. As a result patients are suffering mount. Intern doctors did not attend their job till filing the report at about 2PM. Patuakhali police authorities already closed Sub Inspector Monoj in this connection yesterday.
Director of SBMCH called a meeting with the interns yesterday afternoon but failed as no internees attended the meeting.
Imran Hossain, BCL unit president and intern doctor at SBMCH, said father of Sub Inspector Manoj Kumar of Patuakhali range police was admitted to medicine unit-1 of SBMCH on Friday noon. After that SI Manoj entered the duty room of the doctors and abused and misbehaved with the female intern doctor alone on duty at the ward. Hearing this news other intern doctors rushed to the spot and rescued the female doctor and ousted that police official.
On Saturday noon intern doctors held an emergency meeting and handed over a memorandum to the director of the hospital demanding unconditional apology of the concerned police official.
Dr S M Sirajul Islam, director SBMCH, acknowledging the facts said intern doctors protested the police assault and demanded his apology and decided to continue strike.
The allegation of the intern doctors sent to the police authority for taking action, director SBMCH said. Accused SI Manoj already closed to Patuakhali police lines from Mirzaganj police station yesterday morning said Mizanur Rahman, Officer in Charge of the station.
Mentionable About 1,000 patients have been facing immense suffering at Sher-E- Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal (SBMCH) from Saturday afternoon as intern doctors of the hospital enforced unidentified strike protesting alleged misbehavior of a police sub inspector with an on duty female intern doctor on Friday.
Imran Hosen, spokesman of intern doctors, said Sub Inspector (SI) Monoj Kumar has misbehaved with a female intern doctor at medicine unit -1 on Friday.
