Three gets jail for taking drugs in Dinajpur
A mobile court here yesterday sentenced three persons to six months imprisonment for taking drugs in Birampur upazila of the district, reports BSS from Dinajpur. The convicts are Jahurul, 25, Sahid, 25, and Miru, 22, residents of Debipur village of the upazila. Local people caught the trio red handed while they were taking yaba tablets in Ghatpara area of the upazila this noon and handed them over to police, police sources said. Later, they were produced before the mobile court. The mobile court led by upazila nirbahi officer Moniruzzaman-Al-Masud pronounced the verdict.
Youth jailed for sexual harassment in Faridpur
A mobile court in Alfadanga upazila of this district convicted one youth and sentenced him to suffer three months simple imprisonment on charge of sexual harassment on Wednesday, reports BSS from Faridpur. According to official sources, the mobile court led by UNO and executive magistrate of Alfadanga Abul Khair Mia convicted one Mahmud Khan, 25 son of Mafizur Rahman Khan of village Shirgram under Alfadanga upazila. The convict Mahmud allegedly used to tease a girl student reading in class VII in Shirgram High school regularly. The victims father filed written complaint to the UNO in this matter. Upon the written complaint the UNO through the mobile court slapped the punishment on Mahmmud Khan. Later, he was sent to the jail custody to suffer the punishment.
Repairing work of Dinajpur-Gobindaganj road begins
Repairing work of 26 km long Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in the district has begun recently, reports BSS from Dinajpur. Roads and Highways Department is implementing the work at the cost of Taka 13.22 crore under the supervision of concerned official, said Suruj Miah, executive engineer of the department. The department had taken up initiatives for overall development of the highway to ensure good communication system before Eid, he said.
One killed in road accident
A truck helper was killed in a road accident at Khejurtala area on Natore-Pabna highway under Baraigram upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS from Natore. The victim Emon Hossain 20, was son of Ishaq Ali of Baraichara village under Iswardi upazila of Pabna district. Sgt. Hamid of Zhalmalia Highway Police Camp said the accident took place at about 11.45 am when the driver of a Natore bound truck (Pabna Taw 11-0275) lost control over steering and dashed a road side tree, leaving Emon, helper of the truck, dead.
