Green activists in the capital yesterday urged government agencies to take integrated steps to cut traffic congestions in major cities during Ramadan and ensure the safe journey of home-goers during Eid-ul-Fitar, reports UNB. They came up with the call at a press conference arranged by Poribesh Bachao Andolan (Poba), a voluntarily organisation working on environment issues, at its city office. Reading out the keynote paper, Poba general secretary Engr Andus Sobhan said although the country’s highways have been extended, people have to suffer more on roads during their journey every day due to excessive traffic volume on roads and poor maintenance of the highways. Traffic congestions turn acute during Ramadan, he said, adding that road accidents and pollution are also mark a rise during the period. Sobhan suggested taking comprehensive measures involving Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka city.
