Police yesterday claimed that detained BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury disclosed the names of some masterminds of a conspiracy to oust the government, reports UNB.
“Aslam Chowdhury has divulged many things, but we can’t disclose all those for the sake of investigation. He has said with whom he had meetings in India and who arranged those and who encouraged him to do that,” DMP Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam said.
He came up with the remarks while briefing reporters at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre.
Monir claimed that the investigators found enough evidence and information regarding the BNP leader’s involvement in the plot against the government.
Monir, also the chief of DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Translational Crime Unit, said they will take action against the masterminds revealed by Aslam after the crosscheck of the information and evidence.
He said Aslam, during his meeting with Israeli Likud Party leader Mendi N Safadi and others, had tried to send out a message that Bangladesh government was directly or indirectly killing and oppressing the minority people and grabbing their land property.
The police officer said they found Aslam’s plans and the recent killings are identical as the main motive behind the incidents is to embarrass the government and prove it cannot protect minority communities.
The government recently arrested BNP’s newly made joint secretary general Aslam Chowdhury for his meeting with Mendi Safadi in India as part of a plot to overthrow the government.
On May 26, a sedition case was also filed against him.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Aslam on a five-day fresh remand in the sedition case.
