A pre-monsoon low pressure area has formed over the North West Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. The low is likely to trigger rains today in many areas of the country with gusty/squally winds over the Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet Divisions and at a few places of the Khulna, Mymensingh and Dhaka Divisions and at one or two places over the Rajshahi and Rangpur Divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet Divisions during the next 24 hours beginning at 6pm yesterday. Besides, the meteorologists at Dhaka Met Office warned of landslides in the hilly areas of Chittagong region due to heavy rains. They said, the low may help the South West monsoon winds advance towards south eastern Bangladesh coast of Chittagong, reaching Teknaf coast within the next 48 hours. However, it may take five to seven days for the SW monsoon to arrive over the central Bangladesh and fan out over the entire country by June 15-17 to bring the rainy season as the system is carrying rains on the wings of heavy clouds.
