Recent killings

AL involved: Khaleda

AL involved: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday alleged that ruling Awmi League and its allies are involved in the recent target killings across the country including the murder of the wife of a police officer.
Addressing a discussion organised by the Jatiayatabadi Aijnibi Forum, a platform of pro-BNP lawyers, to mark the 35th death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, the former prime minister also said that though the High Court has instructed the law enforcers not to arrest any person without warrant, such incidents are taking place frequently. On the recent killings, she said, “It’s regrettable that a police officer’s wife has been killed and the reason behind it is still unclear… Awami League and its accomplices are involved in the killings. The mystery behind the murders will be debunked if they (ruling party men) are booked and quizzed.”
Moreover, incidents of extra-judicial killings have become rampant in the country at present, she pointed out. Khaleda said JSD, an ally of the ruling Awami League, introduced the politics of arson and destruction in the country following its inception and the ‘party is adept’ in secret killing. “So, the mystery behind the recent killings can be unearthed if members of Awami League and its allies are interrogated,” she said.
Khaleda said the Niko deal was signed when Sheikh Hasina was the prime minister of the country but instead of accusing her (Hasina), she (Khaleda) has to face the trial in this connection.
“A case was also filed against Hasina for signing the agreement with Niko but that case was quashed but I am being harassed for the same allegation. If there was fair justice the case against me should have been quashed and she (Hasina) would have been in the dock,” Khaleda argued claiming that she was not involved in any wrongdoing. She also alleged that Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy was involved in amassing money through corrupt means. “How was TK 300 crore deposited in the bank account of Joy?” she asked adding that journalist Shafik Rehman was conducting investigation into this issue and that is why he was put behind the bar. “If the documents obtained by Rehman in this regard are made public everything will be revealed,” she added. The BNP chief alleged that the country’s people now do not believe that the judiciary and the judges are now independent as the ruling party and the opposition are getting different treatment in courts. She claimed that though the ruling party men remain out of touch after committing crimes, the opposition ones are being implicated in ‘false’ cases and arrested and then remanded.
