With the aim of poverty reduction, growth and sustainable development of Bangladesh, Denmark has extended its financial assistance for another 5-year where a total of 12 projects would be implemented, reports BSS.
To this end, the government of Bangladesh and Denmark yesterday struck a deal for “Bangladesh Country Programme” for 2016-2021 periods. Senior ERD Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and Danish Ambassador Hanne Fugl Eskj’r put pen on the agreement paper in a ceremony at NEC-II conference room in capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The 12 development projects would require a total of US$ 94.04 million during the tenure.
Of the total expenditure, Denmark would provide $ 51.22 million as grant while Bangladesh government would contribute $ 42.81 million for the third country programme. Five ministries, six NGOs, UNDP and other organisations would be involved to implement the projects.
The Country Programme is based on the Denmark-Bangladesh Country Policy Paper 2013-2017, outlining Danish policy priorities Vis-...-vis Bangladesh. Of the overall objectives stated in the Country Policy Paper, two are directly related to poverty reduction, growth and sustainable development, promotion of democracy, respect for human rights, rule and law and good governance.
The programme is aligned to the Bangladeshi Government’s 7th Five Year Plan that sets out the course for the country’s journey towards middle income status.
The mentionable projects integrated in the programme are: inclusive agricultural growth through integrated extension, climate resilience rural infrastructure, climate resilience in CHT, energy efficient water supply, improved local government capacity, employers rights, strengthen capacity of the National Human Rights Commission, land reform and rule of law, strengthen political participation of women at local level and human rights and access to justice to vulnerable groups.
