Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said exporters will be able to get higher prices from the international market with the help of accreditation bodies in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) is now recognised by international accreditation bodies like APLAC and ILAC, he said, adding that the government has formulated National Quality Policy to expedite BAB activities.
The industries minister was addressing a seminar titled ‘Accreditation: a global tool to support public policy’marking the World Accreditation Day’.
BAB and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) jointly organised the seminar at the DCCI conference room.
DCCI president Hossain Kahled and senior vice president Humayun Rashid also spoke at the programme held with BAB Chairman Prof Dr Altaf Hossain in the chair. BAB director general Md Abu Abdullah presented the keynote paper.
BAB has already certified 47 institutions as accredited institutions.
Senior Industries Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuyian said worldwide demand for quality products is always high. “The people of developed world and even in our country are aware about the quality of products and services,” he said.
The industries secretary said most of the countries in the world have recognised and accepted Bangladesh’s accreditation process and certificate.
The DCCI president said exporters may face difficulties in market expansion for lack of accreditation bodies in the country.
He called upon BAB to accredit more laboratories, certification bodies, inspection authorities to facilitate business and to open training institutes to create accreditation experts.
Abu Abdullah said accreditation not only ensures the quality of products or services but also ensures the quality public policy.
He urged the country’s businessmen, especially the exporters, to accredit their products and services to get higher prices on the international market.
“Accreditation widens the scope of monitoring and it is not a tool to be feared of but it will strengthen the capacity of export competitiveness,”
he said.
Later, Amu distributed accreditation certificates to five institutes.
