A ten-day solo art exhibition titled ‘ViHiMiMis` (Missing Credit) by Dr Firoz Mahmud is now on display at EMK Center, Dhanmondi in the city.
The exhibition is featuring research-based artworks on physically challenged people, who lost their limbs, eyes and mental order in Bangladesh. The most common causes of the disabled people here are from chronic illnesses, unanticipated accidents, birth defects or malnutrition. Dr Firoz took photographs of them from the streets and in their community in Dhaka and Savar and also asked them what other credits, skills and abilities they have. Many of them performed their skills and he documented them and their credits which are not commonly known to their surroundings. Most of them beg in the streets, doorways and perform their extra skills in lieu of money.
Photographs and videos focus on what they wish to have if they were in regular physical abilities to spirit their tempo of life. They performed with their ability by hand, leg, mouth, eyes, and ears.
The research artwork were inspired and influenced by Indian Blind philosopher Jagadguru Rambhadracharya (Giridhar Mishra), and English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author Stephen Hawkings.
The exhibition will remain open to all everyday from 9:30am to 8pm, until June 14.
