Two suspected criminals, including an accused in Bogra Shia mosque attack, were killed in ‘gunfights’ with police in Bogra and Jessore yesterday, reports UNB.
The accused in Bogra, identified as Kawsar, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district’s Haripur village under Shibganj upazila early yesterday.
According to police, the deceased was an alleged member of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Assistant Superintendent of Police Gaziur Rahman of Bogra said a team of police went to Haripur village to arrest Kawsar in the morning.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Kawsar fired shots at them forcing them to retaliate when one of the bullets hit Kawar, leaving him dead on the spot.
On November 26, 2015, a group of 4-5 unidentified gunmen stormed a Shia mosque at Haripur village and opened fire on the devotees while they were offering their maghrib prayers, leaving four of them,
including its muezzin, injured. Later, the muezzin succumbed to his injuries.
In Jessore, a suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Panchbaria on the Jessore-Magura road in sadar upazila. Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Ilias Hossain said a team of police led by Assistant Sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain was going to Isali village to arrest an accused.
When the team reached Panchbaria, they notice a gang of robbers committing robbery on the Jessore-Magura road around 2:45 am.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers fired shots at the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate when one of the bullets hit a robber, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police also recovered a local pipe gun, one round of bullet and some rope from the spot.
Later, the body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
