Post-polls clash injures 12 in Gaibandha

Gaibandha: At least 12 people, including five policemen, were injured in a clash between police and supporters of a member and a chairman candidate at Bhajandanga Galna Char in Fulchhari upazila on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
The injured policemen are Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Fulchhari Police Station Jamal Uddin, constables Bipu Ahmed, Anarul Huque, Nur Alam and Javed Miah. OC of Fulchhari Police Station Khairul Bashar said supporters of defeated member and chairman candidates Belal Hossain and Younus Ali respectively carried out an attack on the house of newly elected union parishad member Gani Miah after the election results of Gazaria union parishad are announced on June 4.
Later, Gani Miah filed a case with Fulchhari Police Station. On Tuesday night, a team of police led by OC Jamal Uddin went to Bhajandanga Galna Char to investigate the matter.
At one stage, supporters of Belal Hossain and Younus Ali swooped on Gani Miah in presence of police. When police tried to stop the clash, followers of Belal and Younus attacked the law enforcers, leaving five policemen and seven others injured.
Following this, police fired 28 rounds of bullet and brought the situation under control, the OC added.
