Couple die from road crash wounds
A couple, who received severe injuries in a road accident in Dhamrai on Tuesday morning, died at Dhamrai Upazila
Health Complex in Savar at night.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Hossain Milton, 45, a resident of Gendardia village in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur district, and his wife Sheuli Begum.
Sub-inspector of Dhamrai Police Station Shainur Rahman said Milton and his wife were going to Magura riding a motorcycle on Tuesday morning.
When they reached Shutipara on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Dhamrai, a bus of ‘Sheba Green Line’ slammed into their motorcycle and another one, leaving the other motorcycle’s rider dead on the spot and them injured.
Later, they were whisked off to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex.
Two drug peddlers sent to jail
A trial court in Barisal yesterday morning sentenced to drug peddlers to jail.
The sentenced two accused were identified as Ismail Hossain Milton, present on the dock, and Mizan Jomaddar, absconding during trial. Rafikul Islam, judge of the tribunal for preventing crimes against public safety, handed down the verdict after examining 12 out of 14 witnesses and other evidences. Among the accused Ismail was sentenced for 2-year imprisonment with Tk 1,000 as fine or to serve more 10-day jail in default. The other accused Mizan was sentenced to 4-year imprisonment with Tk 2,000 as fine or to serve more 20-day in jail in default.
Luxurious car seized in Ctg
Officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department of Chittagong Port seized a Mitsubishi Pajero car worth about Tk 2 crore 50 lakh from Biyezid area in the port city on Tuesday morning.
Shahmimur Rahman, Deputy Director of the department, said a man imported the luxurious car over carnet de-passage facility and in the name of another brand. Acting on a tip off, a team of Customs Intelligence conducted a drive in the area and recovered the vehicle at around 11 am on Tuesday.
4 factories fined for pollution
The Department of Environment on Tuesday fined Taka 37 lakh to four washing, dying, paper factories and an individual for creating environment pollution through releasing liquid waste directly to open environment and cutting hills, said a release.
As part of anti-environment pollution drive and protection activities, Environment Department Director (monitoring and enforcement) AKM Mizanur Rahman imposed the fine against these factories following investigation report that these factories were operating without any ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant). They fined Taka 24.19 lakh to Rising Neat and Textile at Manikganj, Taka 23,000 to Ashik Washing at Keraniganj, Taka 1.80 lakh to Laki Paper Board Mills in Khulna and Taka 10 lakh to Mondol Neat and Wears of Gazipur.
Workshop on national integrity held
A workshop titled Awareness Raising on National Integrity Strategy (NIS) was held in Rangpur city on Tuesday at the conference room of the deputy commissioner.
The district administration in collaboration with Cabinet Division and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organised the workshop. Heads of the different government departments, institutions, organisations, government and non-government officials, public representatives, freedom fighters, politicians, civil society members and journalists took part in the workshop chaired by deputy commissioner.
