The World Bank (WB) has reaffirmed its commitment of providing continuous support to Bangladesh's education sector, reports UNB.
The commitment came at a high level meeting between the government and the WB, held on Tuesday at the WB's headquarters in Washington DC.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid led Bangladesh delegation to the meeting when Annette Dixon, WB Vice President led the WB delegation, according to a statement of the education ministry, issued in the capital yesterday. At the meeting, the education minister highlighted various programmes taken in Bangladesh for the emancipation of women's education and for the modernisation of technical, vocational and madrasha education.
He thanked the development partners specially the WB for their generous support for the development of education in Bangladesh. Dixon told the meeting that her organisation would continue its support for the expansion and qualitative improvement of education in Bangladesh.
She lauded the achievement in Bangladesh's education sector specially increase in women education, prevention of dropout and modernisation of technical and vocational education.
The WB Vice President informed the meeting that her organisation would take steps for launching more new projects to accelerate the educational development in Bangladesh.
