Leaders of the ruling Awami League (AL) yesterday said that the BNP has become politically bankrupt. They also claimed that the BNP has now turned into a foreign-depended party.
They were addressing the AL’s extended meeting held at the party headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
The party has taken an elaborate preparation to celebrate its 66th founding anniversary on June 23, 2015. Dhaka city unit leaders at the meeting called upon the party leaders and workers of to make the founding anniversary a success.
Speaking at the meeting, Food Minister and Dhaka city AL Joint General Secretary Qamrul Islam said that during the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had sought India’s intervention to uphold democracy in the country.
“This proves that BNP’s politics has become dependent on foreign countries,” he said. The minister said BNP has become isolated from the people for its foreign-dependent policy. The day is not far away when BNP will be split into pieces for its anti-people politics, he claimed.
Qamrul Islam also said the BNP leaders and activists were upset over the repeated mistakes and failures of their chief Khaleda Zia.
The AL leader also criticised the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser and Supreme Court Bar Association President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain for his recent comment about BNP’s attitude towards India.
The minister alleged that the BNP is still spreading lies by making claims that they are not against India and that they are only against the Congress Party of India because the party supports Bangladesh Awami League.
Speaking at the programme, Relief and Disaster Management Affairs Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said Bangladesh is moving ahead and it will continue. No one can stop this move forward, he said.
Maya said the BNP leaders are now claiming that their 20-party alliance will not get split. “But I would like to tell them that the alliance will be split into several pieces before the next general election,” he added.
