Fakhrul gets bail in 7 cases
The High Court yesterday granted bail to BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three cases filed over vandalism and arson.
There is no legal bar to release Fakhrul from jail following the High Court order as the BNP leader has secured bail in all the seven cases filed against him after December 2014, Barrister Rafique-ul Huq, counsel for the BNP leader, told reporters after the HC order.
In response to separate bail petitions filed by the BNP leader, a HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman granted him bail.
The HC also issued separate rules asking the government to explain in four weeks why the BNP leader should not be granted regular bail in the three cases filed with Paltan Police Station on January 4 and 6.
The HC bench granted Fakhrul bail considering his illness and as there was no specific allegation against him of being directly involved in the vandalism and arson incidents, Barrister Huq said.
He also said that the HC granted Fakhrul an ad-interim bail in the cases till the disposal of the rules.
