Mustafizur Rahman continued his dream spell by becoming only the second bowler to take five wickets in his first two matches after Zimbabwe fast bowler Biran Vittori when he claimed six wickets by giving away 43 runs against India in the second match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
The Zimbabwe fast bowler achieved the feat against Bangladesh in 2011. Mustafizur, a left-arm pacer, eclipsed his previous best of 5-50 that came in the previous ODI against India.
Mustafizur began his wicket-taking campaign with Rohit Sharma when he removed the opener, who tasted his 12th duck—second against Bangladesh—in the very second delivery of the first over of the match when he ended up slicing the ball to the point, where Nasir Hossain took the catch.
The left-arm seamer thereafter got rid of Mahendra Singh Dhoni with his formidable cutter when the Indian skipper ended up jabbing at a length ball, which lobbed to Soumya Sarkar at short cover.
The 20-year-old pacer raised hope of a hat-trick once again when he trapped Akshar Patel, who played across the line for his third duck in his last four innings, leg-before in the fourth delivery of his eighth over.
This is his second chance for a hat-trick as he had faced the same situation on debut by removing Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin in the fourth and fifth deliveries of his third spell on June 18.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who got out to Mustafizur’s slower ball in the last match, was out to face the hat-trick ball. But he was dismissed by a sublime cutter of Mustafiz, just after facing six deliveries of this record-hunting bowler. He later dismissed Ravindra Jadeja after the game restarted two hours after rain delay.
