For the first time in its history, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has inducted female members, ninety seven in total, after their marching in at the passing out parade at Border Guard Training Centre School, Baitul Izzat at Satkania in Chittagong yesterday. The female BGB members will be stationed at different border points of the country and perform their duties alongside male members of the paramilitary force. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, addressing as chief guest at the passing out parade inthe port city, said, “You are making history as first female troops in the border force. You must always remember the unforgettable bravery and sacrifices of women during the liberation war in 1971.” He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had initiated the process to appoint female members in the border force to ensure that women play an equal role in diverse professions. During the parade, BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed, general officer commanding (GOC) of 24 and 10 infantry divisions were present.
