The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the High Court order that had granted bail to Barrister Shakila Farzana in two cases filed on charges of terror financing. A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, dismissed two petitions filed by the government challenging the High Court’s bail order. “There is no legal bar for Shakila to release from Chittagong jail following the apex court order,” Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, counsel for Shakila told reporters. Earlier on February 22, the High Court granted bail to Supreme Court lawyer Shakila Farzana in two cases, clearing the way for her release from jail. Earlier on August 18, 2015, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested three lawyers, including Supreme Court (SC) lawyers Shakila and Hasanuzzaman Liton, on charge of financing militant outfit Sahed Hamza Brigade (SHB) from Dhanmondi area of Dhaka city. They were shown arrested in an arms case filed in connection with arms recovery from Latmoni hill in Banshkhali upazila on February 21.
