The eleventh and last round matches of the group phase of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) will start at three different venues in Dhaka and its adjoining areas today.
All the matches will kick off at 9:00am simultaneously.
Of them, star-studded Abahani Limited will face-off Cricket Coaching School (CCS) in the must-win game at the BKSP Ground-3 in Savar. Domestic powerhouse team is languishing in fifth place with 12 points from 10 outings. They need to win the match to go into the Super Six.
Dhanmondi-based team held their pre-match day practice at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground yesterday. After their training session, pace sensation Taskin Ahmed said that they will play by their hundred percent efforts for winning tomorrow’s match.
“We could not make a good start in the league. But we got back the momentum after four-match victories on the trot. The team has been balanced after the arrival of Shakib bhai. We have started playing good cricket amending our previous mistakes,” said Taskin Ahmed.
“Tomorrow’s match is the league’s fist phase last match, which is important for us. There is no chance to take any team lightly this year as all the teams have been formed by the new system of Players by Choice. The league has also been competitive. There is no gulf difference amongst the teams,” Ahmed told reporters after the training session at NCA ground.
“We have to play our hundred percent and win the match to go into the Super Six. If we could win the match, then we may stay at the top of the point table. It will also inspire us to play better games in the Super Six,” he added.
The pacer, who took 15 wickets so far, said that they will get down with a view to going into the Super Six.
“All the players including batsmen and bowlers are doing well. Inshallah, we will go into the next phase winning the match by playing our better cricket,” the fast-bowler said.
On the other hand, defending champions Prime Bank Sporting Club will take on Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, who already booked their Super Six spot at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
“There is no opportunity to feel pressure free. Every match is important as it is a straight league. If we could win the match, we will then be in better position in Super Six to win the title,” said Al Amin Hossain, pacer of Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club.
Elsewhere at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Kalabagan Krira Chakra will lock horns with Kalabagan Cricket Academy.
Considering the importance of the matches, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) changed two venue’s matches from the previous schedules.
The match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club has been shifted to Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from the BKSP. Along with that, Legends of Rupganj and Brothers Union match will now be held at BKSP. Previously, it was scheduled to take place in Mirpur.
