BCB wants a specific date to play one-off Test in India

Sports Reporter

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has no reservation to shift the one-off Test against India in next year’s January but they are yet to get any official date from the BCCI.
India is supposed to host Bangladesh for the first time for a Test in August or September. It wasn’t however materialised with the India remaining busy with other series at the moment.
They want the Test match to shift in next January what however didn’t BCB displease considering their tight schedule but they want to know a specific date regarding the tour.
“Basically whenever we speak to them, they confirm that they will play with us, but we haven’t got a date yet,” said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon. “Our CEO gave them a letter officially yesterday (Saturday) and we wanted to know when they want to play. There are many options. They also have a tight schedule. We have just delivered to them an official letter based on one Test.”
“If we don’t get it formally, it won’t be good to comment. We have discussed about shifting it to January, they want to play more in January, but we haven’t yet got an official reply regarding a Test.”
Bangladesh is yet to tour in India for Test series since their elevation as a Test nation in 2000.
While the Test against India remains a headache for Bangladesh, the two-tier theory to make the Test cricket competitive also resurfaced again to leave the country’s cricket apex board in awkward situation.
According to the theory, there will be two divisions—the top seven Test nations will be drawn in Division one while the next three and two –champion and runners-up of ICC Intercontinental championship will be moved to Division two.
“This is a very preliminary stage. We have to see what our profit here is. One thing what I have heard from our CEO is that there will be two division. Now what happens is that the top teams won’t want to play Tests with us. If they make two divisions, then top seven will play with everyone home and away continuously and the ones in the bottom will play each other and then teams will go down and up. The one thing that can happen is that if someone at the bottom plays well continuously then there is a confirmation that it can play with us continuously. But it is very, early. There are several issues that we have to discuss on this issue. If we don’t know the queries then it’s very difficult to comment on this.”
