Suspend road works for 10 days ahead of Eid, says minister

LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday asked the authorities concerned to suspend the digging work of roads across the country, including Dhaka, for 10 days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports UNB.
The LGRD minister came up with the directives while talking to reporters after a meeting with all city corporation mayors over ensuring civic amenities ahead of Ramadan at the Secretariat.
Mosharraf asked the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), especially Dhaka Wasa, to ensure smooth water supply during Ramadan so that people do not dont face any crisis during the fasting month.
It also directed Wasa to reach water to the doorsteps of people, if needed, he said. Besides, the meeting decided to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the country during Sehri and Iftar times, said Mosharraf adding, Ill talk to State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid over the issue.
The minister also assured the city corporation mayors of providing all-out support in this regard.
Meanwhile, the district deputy commissioners and city mayors have been directed to take measures so that rotten or stale foods are not be served at restaurants and shops during the fasting month, he said.
However, the meeting decided to conduct mobile court drives against formalin use in fruits, vegetable and fish, he added.
Besides, the city mayors have been asked to take necessary steps for cleaning dustbins and roads regularly and keep the footpath free from illegal encroachment, said Mosharraf Hossain.
It also asked the mayors to take necessary steps for hanging price charts and strengthening monitoring to ensure it. The minister also asked the LGRD Ministry to take immediate steps in covering the holes at the construction site of Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover and remove the construction garbage from the site for ensuring smooth plying of vehicles.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayed Khokon, Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, Barisal Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal, Gazipur acting Mayor Asadur Rahman Khan Kiron, Rangpur Mayor Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu were, among others, present at the meeting.
