A mobile court of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has launched a campaign to evict illegal occupants from riverbank of Dhaleshwari at Keraniganj part on Friday, reports BSS.
The court, led by executive magistrates Sarwar Ahmed and Mahbub Jamil of Dhaka district administration, pulled downed the extension part of a building of Arku Boot Builders’, five tin sheds structures and boundary walls of two brick kilns’, BIWTA sources said.
The drive was launched to clear the BIWTA lands where different kinds of structures, including industrial units and brick kilns, were erected illegally on both sides of the river which were potential threat to pollute river water as well as squeezing river. Director of BIWTA Shafiqul Hoque, assistant commissioner (land) of Keraniganj Shamim Banu Shanti and joint director of Dhaka River Port Gulzar Ali were present, among others, during the drive.
The BIWTA has also identified 50 brick kilns and different kinds of industrial units established on both sides of the river from Gopchar to Fatullah under Narayanganj sadar upazila to be evicted under the current drive.
