186 consumers get electricity in Gaibandha

A total of 186 consumers of Sadar and Shaghata upazilas have got instant electricity connections from Gaibandha Palli Bidyut Samity (GPBS) recently through an innovation created by its general manager (GM), reports BSS from Gaibandha.
Office sources said district administration formed an innovation circle comprising the departmental chiefs and other officials here at the directive of Access to Information (a2i) programme of Prime Minister (PM) office. The objective of the innovation circle is to provide services to the people with short time, low cost and few visits leaving the traditional service delivery system to lead the country towards desired development, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Abdus Samad.
In response, DHM Wahedul Haque, GM of GPBS, created an innovation entitled “Easy to Electricity Connection” for the consumers in the jurisdiction area of the samity.
Under the innovation, the consumers are getting electricity connections from the samity within a day, without any additional cost and only a visit avoiding harassment and corruption by the brokers and the dishonest staff.
On April 12, as many as 31 consumers of Ruparbazaar area, on April 26, 90 consumers of Kamarjani Bazaar of Sadar upazila and May 09, 65 consumers of Chalkdateya area of Shaghata upazila got electricity connections instantly after completing official formalities within a few hours, said an official.
“In spot metering system, a consumer is to deposit Taka 600 as meter fees, Taka 50 as samity membership fees and Taka 100 for application fees,” the official said.
Abdul Hai Sarker, a consumer of Kamarjani Bazaar, said he got the electricity connection in a day from the samity without any harassment and did not have excess money to avail it.
