Bulbul’s prescription for the future of Bangladesh cricket

Former skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul said that they should form an emerging squad beside the high performance (HP) unit and the national team to increase the involvement of the players.
“We see a lot of players playing in domestic cricket especially Dhaka Premier League. But we don’t see many of them after the league despite their better performance. We could form an emerging squad with 50-60 players. Now we’ve seen involving some players in High Performance. Along with that, there are a host of players in national team,” said Aminul Islam yesterday.
“But we should increase the participation of the players alongside taking steps so that they could play and practice round the year under the scanner of the board. The more we could involve them in games and practice the more we could get experienced and quality players,” Bulbul told this correspondent at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“We still could not divide the players for three formats. The most of the key players still play in three formats for us. Actually we’ve to try to transform players from Twenty20 to ODI and ODI to Test. For this, we have to develop the stock of players and their quality,” he added.
He said that they could not make their expected progress in Test what they achieved in one day and T20.
“We have been playing Test cricket since 16 years. We could not reach at the level of development where we are supposed to reach at. It is our failure,” Aminul Islam, who is in ICC as development officer, said.
“We don’t play Test regularly. Even we are slashing the scheduled Test matches. We could be developed our position and done well in Test if we can play more Test matches,” he also said.
“If you look at our three formats of games you’ll get to see that we played our good cricket in three formats. We played Asia Cup Final. In T20 World Cup, we have sent a message to all that we’re one of the stronger sides. But we are still lag behind than others in Test cricket.”
Considering the upcoming setbacks and challenges, Bulbul said that they should be focused more on developing their cricket further to address the future challenges.
“There is a possibility to start a Tier system. We should be more attentive in Test considering the new system,” he said, adding “There is a possibility to fall a negative impact on us. In the current Test rankings, we’re amongst the bottom place-holders. So, we should be concentrated more on improving our rankings.”
“We’re progressing in Test cricket also. We came out from the worse situation by hitting two hundred against Pakistan. Even we played well in Dhaka. We’re developing gradually. We’re playing well in one day and T20 formats. Actually, the more we play Test the more we will do better in other formats.”
“If we fall into the Tier-2 then we have to give test to come here though the matter is not settled yet in ICC. It’ll be known elaborately after passing the proposal,” he said.
“ICC is organizing the Inter-continental Cup on regular basis, where Afghanistan, Ireland and Scotland are mostly ahead. ICC of course has such type of planning. But as the full member country we have say something.”  I will say that as we have no better rankings, then we have still many times. If we could sort out the best players and play Test then we could do well in Test cricket.
“If the Tier system is introduced then we may fall in problem for the time being. But for this we have to develop our cricket. We should concentrate on long-term development. We have to focus more on Test how we can develop there.”
“We have no regional training centre. We’ve no facility to sort out talented players from regional level. We should form regional cricket organization. If we could build up this then the quality players will be come out.”
