Tasamul Haque hit a brilliant century to help the Kalabagan Krira Chakra escape from the relegation zone as his side stunned mighty Mohammedan Sporting Club by six wickets in the Dhaka Premier League yesterday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
While the victory even gave the KKC a glimmer of hope to seal the super league spot, Mohammedan’s chance to secure the elite phase was further jeopardized.
Legends of Rupganj and Victoria Sporting on the other hand confirmed super league spots after Prime Doleshwar by beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Brothers Union respectively in the day’s other two matches.
Mohammedan vs Kalabagan Krira Chakra
The victory in the game could ensure Mohammedan’s super league spot but Mashrafe Bin Mortaza-led KKC showed a stellar performance to deal a mighty blow to the Motijheel outfit’s aspiration.
Mohammedan piled up a respectable 290 for six, thanks to the century from Indian recruit Bipul Sharma. But his century on DPL debut was put on shed by Tasamul Haque who smacked an unbeaten 129 ball-126 to guide the side overhaul the target in just 43.1 overs.
The platform of the victory was set by opener Hasanuzzaman who smashed a whirlwind 95 off 53 despite losing his fellow opener for naught in the second ball of the chase. From 0-1, Hasanuzzaman and Tasamul combined for a 140 runs partnership in just 18.1 overs what kept the asking run rate under control. Hasanuzzman smashed four fours and eight sixes before being dismissed by Naeem Islam but Tasamul remained firm.
Paras Dogra and Mehrab Junior failed to aid Tasamul to leave the chance of winning the game at stake but he got an ably support from Tanveer Haider with whom he shared an undefeated 129 runs for the fifth wicket to take the side home. Tanveer was not out on 53 while Tasamul struck eight fours and two sixes in his 126 to clinch a brilliant win.
Earlier both Bipul Sharma and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim were in attacking mood after their top order set the platform. Mushfiqur Rahim clobbered five fours and two sixes in his 71 ball-75 while Bipul Sharma clattered eight sixes and six fours in his 100 off 86. But their knock wasn’t enough to save Mohammedan when Kalabagan batsmen were in rampaging form.
The victory gave Kalabagan 10 points in 10 matches while Mohammedan’s point remains 12. Both of the team will be looking for their last game to know their fate.
Victoria Sporting Club vs Brothers Union
Victoria was favourite to win the game and they won it, dominating Brothers thoroughly at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Riding on a superb century from opener Abdul Majid, Victoria compiled a huge 302 for nine after which their bowlers shot Brothers out for 190 in 45.3 overs to secure a facile 112-run victory.
Majid and his fellow opener Fazle Mahmud shared 170 runs for the opening stand to set the tune. Considering their partnership, Victoria was poised to make bigger score than what they did but no one from the middle and late order ruled the Brothers bowlers as what was expected. Left arm spinner Nabil Samad with four wickets for 50 in 10 overs actually slowed down the scoring rate at the death overs.
Majid hit 11 fours and four sixes in his 117 ball-118 while Fazle Mahmud 71 off 98, sending the ball across the rope four times.
Mahbubul Alam scalped three for 33 to dismantle Brothers batting line up even though their captain Tushar Imran resisted with 93 runs. Victoria now has 13 points in 10 matches while Brothers has eight.
Legends of Rupganj vs Sheikh Jamal
Legends of Rupganj beat Shiekh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by seven wickets at BKSP-3 ground to confirm the super league spot with 13 points in 10 matches. Murad Khan and Taijul Islam shared six wickets evenly to wrap up Jamal’s innings for 184 in 45 overs. Rupganj lost opener Jahurul Islam Omee in the first ball of the chase but that mattered little as Nahidul Islam with 92 runs helped the side sail the home in just 32.5 overs.
Junaid Siddique struck an unbeaten 53 to assist Nahidul in clinching a comfortable victory.
